The Strengthening Families Program (SFP) is designed as a prevention system that is family-focused, research-based for children ages 6 to 15 years old and their families. SFP uses family systems and cognitive-behavioral approaches to increase resilience and reduce risk factors for behavioral, emotional, academic, and social problems. The program builds on protective factors by improving family relationships, improving parenting skills, and increasing the youth's social and life skills. This includes reducing the high-risk behaviors and risk factors associated with alcohol, tobacco and other drug use. The ultimate goal is to create and operate a seamless system of care that includes primary prevention, intervention and treatment services.
